Lebih dari 60 universitas dan institusi pendidikan tinggi di Jerman memutuskan untuk berhenti menggunakan platform media sosial X milik Elon Musk. Keputusan ini diambil karena mereka menilai platform tersebut tidak lagi mendukung nilai-nilai seperti keberagaman, kebebasan, dan prestasi akademik.
Dalam pernyataan bersama yang dirilis pada Sabtu (11/1/2025), universitas-universitas tersebut mengkritik keras platform yang sebelumnya dikenal sebagai Twitter sebelum diakuisisi oleh Elon Musk. Mereka menuduh platform itu telah menjadi sarana penyebaran konten populis sayap kanan, yang mereka anggap tidak dapat diterima.

“Langkah ini adalah pesan tegas untuk mendukung komunikasi berbasis fakta sekaligus menentang kekuatan anti-demokrasi,” demikian isi pernyataan tersebut.
Achim Zolke, juru bicara Universitas Heinrich Heine di Düsseldorf dan inisiator gerakan ini, menyatakan bahwa jumlah universitas yang bergabung terus bertambah setiap jam.
Sementara itu, Silke Engel, juru bicara Universitas Potsdam, menyoroti perubahan besar dalam cara kerja dan operasional platform tersebut. Engel menilai algoritma X telah mengganggu distribusi informasi dan mempengaruhi percakapan publik secara tidak sehat. Dia juga mengkritik minimnya pengawasan di bawah dalih kebebasan berbicara, yang justru memfasilitasi penyebaran ujaran kebencian, disinformasi, dan manipulasi.
Beberapa universitas di Jerman yang telah resmi keluar dari platform X antara lain Universitas Heinrich Heine Düsseldorf, Universitas Freie Berlin, Universitas Humboldt, Universitas Heidelberg, Universitas Münster, Universitas RWTH Aachen, Universitas Olahraga Jerman Cologne, dan Universitas Eropa Viadrina Frankfurt (Oder).
