Pelatih Timnas Indonesia, Shin Tae-yong (STY), mengungkapkan bahwa penampilan Rafael Struick selama Piala AFF 2024 kurang optimal karena kondisi fisik striker berusia 21 tahun tersebut tidak berada dalam kondisi terbaik. Sepanjang turnamen, Struick gagal mencetak gol maupun memberikan assist.
“Rafael Struick memang tiba di timnas dalam kondisi kelelahan, sehingga tidak bisa menunjukkan performa yang maksimal,” ujar pelatih asal Korea Selatan itu dalam konferensi pers setelah pertandingan, Sabtu (22/12/2024), seperti dikutip dari Antara.

Dalam laga terakhir melawan Filipina di Stadion Manahan, Solo, Sabtu, Struick hanya bermain selama 52 menit sebelum digantikan oleh Hokky Caraka. Sebagai salah satu pemain senior di timnas, performa Struick diharapkan lebih baik, namun kondisi fisiknya menjadi kendala utama.
Meski demikian, Shin Tae-yong tetap optimistis Struick akan kembali ke performa terbaiknya pada babak ketiga kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2026. Timnas Indonesia dijadwalkan bertandang ke Australia pada 20 Maret 2025 dan menjamu Bahrain pada 25 Maret 2025.
“Saya percaya Rafael Struick akan kembali menunjukkan performa apik di liga Australia dan siap menghadapi pertandingan kualifikasi Piala Dunia 2026,” tutup Shin Tae-yong. Pemain yang telah mencatatkan 22 penampilan bersama tim senior ini diharapkan menjadi kunci kesuksesan Indonesia di ajang tersebut.
